Pattern Printed Coil
The manufacturing process begins with a pre-primed and pre-coated base coil. A high-resolution printing roller transfers the desired pattern onto the coil surface using UV-stable inks. The printed coil then receives a clear topcoat (e.g., polyester or PVDF) to protect the pattern from scratching, fading, and weathering. The final product is a ready-to-use coil that can be roll-formed, bent, or stamped into various profiles without damaging the print.
Key properties of pattern printed coils include excellent durability (the clear topcoat protects against UV radiation, moisture, and abrasion), strong adhesion of the print layer, good formability (the coating remains intact during bending and profiling), and a realistic, high-definition pattern that resists fading for many years. These coils are lightweight compared to natural stone or wood, and they offer consistent color and pattern from batch to batch.
Common standards include EN 10169 (European) and ASTM A755 (American), with additional specifications for print quality. Typical base steel grades are DX51D, SGCC, or CS Type B for general forming. Coating weights range from Z80 to Z275 (GI) or AZ50 to AZ150 (GL). The clear topcoat is typically polyester (general use) or PVDF (premium UV resistance).
Applications of pattern printed coils are primarily architectural and decorative:
● Building exteriors: wall cladding, siding, roofing, and facade panels (wood grain or stone patterns).
● Interior decoration: ceiling panels, partition walls, elevator interiors, and decorative trim.
● Furniture: cabinet doors, shelf panels, and office partitions.
● Appliances: refrigerator doors, microwave oven panels, and air conditioner covers.
● Signage and displays.
The main advantage of pattern printed coil over traditional materials is lower cost, lighter weight, easier installation, and maintenance-free durability compared to real wood or stone. However, the printed pattern may scratch if handled roughly, and the clear topcoat can degrade over time under extreme UV exposure (premium PVDF coatings mitigate this).
Selection guidance: For exterior building applications, choose a PPGL base with a PVDF clear topcoat for maximum weather resistance. For interior use, a PPGI base with a polyester clear coat is sufficient and more economical. Always request sample panels to verify pattern realism and color accuracy before bulk ordering.
